Father Guy Larouche, Missionary of Africa (White Father), died at CIUSSS du Saguenay-Lac-StJean, Hôpital de Chicoutimi, QC, on February 11, 2021. He was the son of late Mr. Adélard Larouche and the late Mrs. Yvonne Bouchard. Father Larouche lived on Argyle Street in Ottawa from 1993 to 2004 where he was the Bursar for the White Fathers. He spent many years as a missionary in Uganda. The funeral will be held privately on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cathedral. He was cremated at the l’Alliance funéraire du Royaume crematorium and the ashes will be placed in the St-François-Xavier Mausoleum/Columbarium. Rev. Mike McCaffery, a leader in the Edmonton Catholic community for more than 50 years, died Monday evening “due to possible complications related to COVID-19,” according to the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton. Father Mike, as he was known, was 85 years old. To the wider public, McCaffery is likely most well known for officiating the 1988 wedding of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet. Rev. Hugh Donald MacDonald, "Father Hughie D", passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home in his 95th year. Born on a farm in Springfield, Antigonish Co., on Sunday, January 27, 1925, he was the son of Augustine "Gusty" and Catherine "Katie" MacDonald. He was a true son of Springfield as it was always his first choice when going for a drive. He could talk about who lived where and there was always a story. Eternal rest grant unto Fr. Sadly, on December 13, 2020 Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves, was called to his eternal rest. Prayers and viewing were held on January 3, 2021. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on January 31, 2021 (respecting Covid-19 restrictions), presided over by Archbishop Albert LeGatt, Archdiocese of St. Boniface. Father Patrick Joseph Power of the Archdiocese of St. John's reposed in the Lord - 8 April 2020 He served the Lord and His Church as a priest for some 36 years.
